Summary: | Proprietary thin surfacings are being offered by materials suppliers in the United Kingdom, including THINPAVE by Bardon Aggregates Limited (now known as Aggregate Industries Limited). Information on THINPAVE, with particular emphasis on the material laid in a trial on the B1396 near Doncaster, has been assessed and it has been found that THINPAVE has complied with all stages of the Highways Agency 5-Stage Procedure for Evaluating New Materials, except for the limited traffic level on the trial site. Therefore, THINPAVE has been granted Departmental Type Approval by the Highways Agency for use as a thin surfacing on trunk roads, including motorways, in England but with an initial restriction of not for use on roads with more than 1,500 cv/l/d |
